At Wily, we believe in the power of coaching. An effective coach makes you feel supported and validated, holds you accountable, and helps you develop the tools, skills, and insights needed to reach your goals. Coaching can be transformative for both individuals and organizations—and in 2016, when we were just beginning to build our organization, Wily needed a coach. We were lucky to find Amy Tormey, an Executive Coach with more than 20 years of experience working with start-up, emerging growth, and well-established companies. Amy was pivotal in helping Wily to build a solid foundation by providing pro bono support to help set goals, strategize, and assess our organization. When we get stuck, Amy is always there to help evaluate, reflect, and plan, so that Wily can move forward.

What resonates with you about Wily?
“When I first spoke with Judi about Wily, back when the organization was just beginning to take shape, I was struck by her vision. It was clear from the start that Wily was never going to be a “one-size-fits-all” program. Instead, Wily embraces and celebrates the individuality of each Scholar—a philosophy that deeply resonates with who I am and aligns with my personal values. Although I’ve never been coached by a Wily coach, I imagine the approach mirrors some aspects of the coaching I provide in my professional work. Whether we’re guiding Scholars or business clients, the goal is the same: to help them identify and overcome barriers so they can move toward their aspirations. At the heart of this process is meeting people where they are. That’s always the starting point, because each person’s journey is as unique as their circumstances.” – Amy Tormey
You’ve watched Wily grow from an idea to a decade- old program. As we finish our 10th year, what excites you most about the future of Wily?
“Having an idea is one thing; turning that idea into action is another. But the rarest achievement of all is building an organization that not only grows but scales effectively, navigating complexchallenges and opportunities with grace. Wily has accomplished this beautifully, which is nothing short of remarkable. What excites me most is the organization’s continued growth and its expanding reach. With each new milestone, Wily creates access to opportunities for even more members of our community, bringing a profound sense of hope and optimism for the future.” – Amy Tormey
A word from Wily’s Founder and Executive Director, Judi Alperin King PhD:
“From the very beginning, Amy was unfailingly optimistic that Wily was going to succeed. Insightful, direct, and supportive, Amy brings a sense of balance and perspective which remains impactful for me, but was especially critical in those early days when we were building Wily’s infrastructure from the ground up.”
